The Philip Thiep Tran Memorial Scholarship (known as the PTT Scholarship for short) is a merit-based scholarship founded in 2018 by Mrs. Phu Capone (Carlmont High alum) to honor her father, Philip Tran (1939-2021), and the values that he embodied. The purpose of the PTT scholarship is to promote the values that the Scholarship Committee believes contribute to the betterment of humanity, similar to those of Mr. Philip Tran’s, and to celebrate youth who are likely to carry on those values in the future. These values include family, generosity, hard work, and humility. Beginning in Spring 2019, the scholarship will annually recognize one graduating high school senior from the Sequoia High School District, which serves students in Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City, Atherton, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto, and other Peninsula communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are looking for outstanding individuals who have demonstrated the same exemplary values as Mr. Philip Tran, while also having maintained academic excellence throughout high school. A scholarship of $1,500.00 or more will be awarded to the recipient as an investment in their continued education, as well as an investment in what they represent. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the winner’s college in 1 installment, only after verification of full-time college enrollment has been provided.
